Democrats Criticize Bush on Social Security, Environment - 2002-08-10

The Democratic Party used its radio address Saturday to criticize the Bush administration's policies on Social Security and the environment.

Speaking from Las Vegas, Nevada Congressional candidate Dario Herrera accused the Bush administration of gambling with Social Security.

The 28-year-old Clark County Commission chairman also had tough environmental words for the president. Mr. Herrera said he became inspired to run for the U.S. Congress after he was in Washington lobbying lawmakers to vote against sending nuclear waste to his state.

President Bush has formally approved the Yucca Mountain site in Nevada as the nation's high-level nuclear waste dump. It is scheduled to open in 2010.
