Music News: AIDS Project LA Hosts 'Disco Ball'; Springsteen Takes Album Tour to Europe


October 13, AIDS Project Los Angeles will host "The Disco Ball, A 30th Anniversary Celebration" at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Performers taking part in the benefit include Usher, Paula Abdul, Mya, Aaron Carter and Westlife. ABC-TV will tape the event for later broadcast.

October 15, MCA Records will issue the latest compilation in the Red Hot charity album series. Red Hot + Riot! includes tracks by D'Angelo, Macy Gray, Dead Prez, Femi Kuti, and others. They'll cover songs by the late Nigerian artist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who died of AIDS-related causes in 1997.

The much-anticipated new album by Country/pop star Faith Hill will be released on October 15. Cry follows her 1999 album Breathe, which debuted at Number One on Billboard's Top 200 chart and has sold seven million copies in the U.S. to-date. Faith will promote her new album with a performance on this year's Country Music Association Awards show Nov. 6, and she'll appear in her own NBC-TV special on November 28. Faith is planning to launch a concert tour in 2003.

AWARDS PRESENTATIONS/WINNERS:

Santana, Pink, David Bowie and Michelle Branch will perform at this week's 2002 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards. The ceremony will take place at New York's Radio City Music Hall on October 15. Music award categories include Most Influential Artist and Visionary Video.

October 17, the 13th annual International Bluegrass Music Awards will be presented in Louisville, Kentucky. This year's leading nominees are the Del McCoury Band and Alison Krauss & Union Station. Krauss and her band picked up twelve nominations. The Del McCoury Band received 11. Multi-nominees Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless will host this year's event.

LOOK WHO'S GOING ON TOUR!

October 14, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band will kick off a European tour in support of their latest album, The Rising. Shows begin in Paris, France. Also on the group's itinerary are concerts in Barcelona, Spain Oct. 16; Bologna, Italy Oct. 18; Berlin, Germany Oct. 20; Rotterdam, Netherlands Oct. 22; Stockholm, Sweden Oct. 24; and London, England October 27.

Rhythm-and-blues star India.Arie will begin a North America concert tour on October 16 in Montreal, Quebec. The outing is in support of her new Motown Records release Voyage To India. Shows are scheduled to wrap up on November 29 in Chicago, Illinois.
