Thai Boxer Yodsanan Nanthachai Retains Super-Featherweight Title - 2002-12-06

Thai boxer Yodsanan Nanthachai, also know as 3K-Battery, has successfully defended his World Boxing Association super-featherweight (59 kg) title in Bangkok.

He was impressive in his defense Thursday, stopping American Lamont Pearson midway through the ninth round. Pearson started well when he used his faster jab to hold off the WBA champ, dominating the first two rounds. But after that, Yodsanan controlled the action by solidly attacking at the American's midsection. He floored Pearson two times before the referee stopped the bout at the one minute 46-second mark of the ninth round.

Yodsanan improves to 39 wins, two losses and one draw with 32 knockouts. Pearson, who works for the U.S. Postal Service full-time, suffered only his second loss in 22 fights (19-2-1, 11 knockouts).

The bout in Bangkok was held at Royal Square for King Bhumiphol's 75th Birthday Celebration, and there were approximately 60,000 Thais in attendance.
