Malawi's New National Soccer Coach - 2003-03-11

update

Malawi's new national soccer coach, Englishman Allan Gillet, says he's looking forward to a big African Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria March 29 in Blantyre.

"The Flames" currently top the table in Group-One of Nations Cup qualifying with three points, after a 1-0 over Angola last October. Nigeria and Angola each have one point. The Nigerians and the Angolans played to a 0-0 draw in Luanda last September.

In an interview with English to Africa reporter Eldson Chagara in Blantyre, coach Gillet said to upset Nigeria, Malawi will have to "work together as a very strong team, a disciplined team, and bring Malawi's particular brand of football" to the game. Gillet also said he hopes to stay in Malawi and have his four-month contract extended. He said he has enjoyed living and working in Malawi, and added that Malawi's players have been good to him.
