update

An explosion at a house near the U.S. military headquarters in Afghanistan has killed at least three people, all believed to be local Afghan residents.

The explosion occurred Friday, killing some of the victims instantly and trapping others inside the rubble.

The blast site is close to the entrance to the Bagram air base, which serves as the headquarters for U.S. military operations in Afghanistan.

The U.S. military dispatched firefighters from the base to dampen resulting fires.

The United States has 12,500 troops in Afghanistan, which along with local Afghan forces, are battling fighters loyal to the former Taleban government and other militant insurgents.
