Russian, S. Korean Coast Guards Begin Joint Exercises - 2003-09-24

Russian and South Korean coast guards have begun joint exercises off Russia's far east coast.

A spokesman for Russia's Pacific Fleet told the media on Wednesday that the three-day exercises in the Peter the Great Bay are aimed at perfecting interaction in seizing trespassing vessels and developing common procedures during search and rescue operations at sea.

Three Russian ships and one helicopter, as well as two South Korean vessels are taking part in the maneuvers, which are part of a wider cooperation program between the two countries' border guard services.
