John Allen Muhammad, one of the men accused of terrorizing the Washington, D.C., area in a wave of sniper shootings last October, has been found guilty of capital murder and terrorism.
Jurors in Virginia returned the guilty verdict Monday after less than seven hours of deliberations.
They found Muhammad guilty in the shooting death of Dean Meyers outside a gasoline station in Manassas, Virginia, on October 9 last year.
The 42-year-old Muhammad could face the death penalty during the forthcoming sentencing phase.
Ten people were killed and three others seriously wounded, including a young boy, in seemingly random sniper attacks in the Washington, D.C., area last October. Many of the victims were killed as they went about their normal daily tasks - putting gasoline in their cars or going shopping.
Muhammad and his alleged teenage accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo were arrested and charged with the killings. They are also suspects in shootings in several other states.
Mr. Malvo is now on trial in Virginia for the October 14, 2002 shooting death of an FBI analyst in the parking lot of a Virginia shopping center.
