Explosion in Tel Aviv Kills at Least 3 - 2003-12-11

At least three people have been killed and more than a dozen injured in an explosion on a busy street in the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv.

Police are saying they are not sure if the blast was a terrorist attack or related to criminal activity.

The explosion took place during lunch time in a foreign currency exchange shop just as a prominent Israeli underworld figure entered. The man, Ze'ev Rosenstein, was injured in the blast.

If the attack is related to criminal activity it would be one of the deadliest ever in Israel. If militants were behind the explosion, then it would be the first such attack since a Palestinian suicide bomber blew herself up in the northern city of Haifa two months ago, killing 21 people.
