Insurgents Launch 2 Deadly Roadside Bomb Attacks in Baghdad - 2004-07-01

Insurgents in Iraq have carried out two deadly roadside bomb attacks in Baghdad, Thursday.

In one incident, a senior official of Iraq's Finance Ministry was seriously wounded and two body guards were killed. Police say they believe the attack was aimed at the official, who heads the ministry's audit board.

A second roadside blast occurred as a U.S military convoy passed through another Baghdad district. Police say several bystanders were killed or wounded. But no confirmed figure was immediately available.

Wednesday, coalition forces carried out an airstrike in Fallujah, targeting another suspected hideout of wanted terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's al-Qaida linked network. It was the fourth such attack in the city recently.

There was no indication whether Zarqawi was in the building.
