Australia Upsets Japan in Olympic Baseball

Australia has pulled off an upset win in the Olympic baseball semi-final, defeating gold medal favorite Japan, 1-0.

Two Australian pitchers shut down Japan's all-professional lineup Tuesday while Aussie first baseman Brendan Kingman drove in the game's only run.

Australia will now play Wednesday for the gold medal against the winner of today's other semi-final between Canada and Cuba.

Baseball's home country, the United States, did not qualify for this year's Olympic baseball tournament.

Kenya Sweeps Medals in Steeplechase

Kenyan runners won all three medals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Summer Olympics in Greece.

Ezekiel Kemboi won the gold medal Tuesday in a time of 8 minutes, 5.81 seconds, followed by silver medalist Brimin Kipruto in 8 minutes, 6.11 seconds.

Paul Kipsiele Koech captured the bronze in 8 minutes, 6.64 seconds.

American Runner Wins Gold Medal in 100-Meter Hurdles

American runner Joanna Hayes has won the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the Summer Olympics in Greece.

Hayes posted an Olympic record time of 12.37 seconds Tuesday, .08 seconds faster than silver medalist Olena Krasovska of Ukraine.

American Melissa Morrison won the bronze with 12.56 seconds.

Czech Republic Wins Gold Medal in Decathlon

Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic has won the decathlon at the Summer Olympics in Greece.

Bryan Clay of the United States captured the silver medal Tuesday, and Dmitriy Karpov of Kazakhstan took bronze.

Moroccan Runner Wins Gold Medal

Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco has won the gold medal in the men's 1,500-meter race at the Summer Olympics in Greece.

El Guerrouj finished first in 3:34.18, holding off Kenya's Bernard Lagat, who took the silver in 3:34.30.

Rui Silva of Portugal won the bronze in 3:34.68.

In other action, American runner Joanna Hayes won the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles with an Olympic record time of 12.37 seconds.

Olena Krasovska of Ukraine took the silver medal, and American Melissa Morrison won the bronze.
