Kerry Praises Bremer, Calls on Cheney to Admit Mistakes in Iraq - 2004-10-05

update

Senator John Kerry has praised the former U.S. administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, for admitting U.S. military mistakes in post-war Iraq, and called on Vice President Cheney to do the same.

Speaking while campaigning in Iowa Tuesday, Mr. Kerry says he hopes Mr. Cheney will use tonight's vice-presidential debate to "take responsibility" for problems in Iraq.

Later, he said President Bush also needs to take accountability for Iraq. He repeated his position that Iraq has been a "diversion" from the real war on terrorism.

Sources close to President Bush and Mr. Kerry say both will closely watch this evening's vice-presidential debate, which comes three days before their second televised match-up and four weeks before the November second election.
