The United Nations Security Council has condemned the ongoing violence in Haiti and called on all sides involved to respect the rule of law.
Current Council President Emyr Jones Parry of the United Kingdom said Thursday that the 15 Council members support the U.N. peacekeeping operation in the Caribbean nation.
The United Nations sent some 3,000 peacekeepers to Haiti in June to help stabilize the country following February's ouster of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
Meanwhile, the U.N.'s World Food Program has handed out nearly 1,400 tons of food to more than 400,000 people since Tropical Storm Jeanne caused catastrophic flooding last month.
Some 2,000 people were killed and thousands more left homeless.
