update

Damiano Cunego of Italy has won cycling's season-ending Tour of Lombardy in Como, Italy. Meanwhile, countryman and Olympic champion Paolo Bettini on Saturday clinched his third consecutive World Cup title.

Cunego, the Tour of Italy champion, won a five-way sprint to record his 13th victory of the year. Dutchman Michael Boogered was second and Italy's Ivan Basso was third. They were followed by Australia's Cadel Evans and Italy's Daniele Nardello.

Bettini finished in 29th place, more than one minute behind the winner. Bettini, who rides with the Quick Step team, is the only cyclist to win the World Cup three times.

The yearly 10-race competition will be replaced by a 30-race pro tour beginning in 2005.
