Cricket: Australia Takes Insurmountable 2-0 Lead in ICS Super Series

Australia's cricket team has beaten a World 11 by 55 runs to take an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the International Cricket Council's Super Series in Melbourne.

Man of the Match Adam Gilchrist led the home side with 103 runs, including four sixes and eight fours. Australia reached 328-4 in 50 overs with Ricky Ponting scoring 66 runs and Damien Martyn adding 54.

The World 11 would have needed a record run total to win the match. The visitors reached 213 all out in 45.3 overs, with Chris Gayle scoring 54 and Kumar Sangakarra reaching 61.

Since the Aussies took the first match by 93 runs, Friday's victory gives Australia an unbeatable lead in the three-match series. The third one-day international is scheduled for Sunday with a six-day Super Test starting October 14 in Sydney.
