Honduran President Accepts State Responsibility for Political Repression

update

Honduran President Ricardo Maduro has apologized to the families of victims of political violence in his country.

In a speech late this week, President Maduro acknowledged the political repression that occurred in the 1980s and 1990s. Specifically, he accepted state responsibility for the disappearances of two human rights activists, Juan Sanchez and Dixie Urbina, in the 1990s.

During the period, human rights organizations say the Honduran military cracked down on leftists, killing dozens. At least 184 people were never seen again.
