Nigeria has postponed Saturday's local government elections in the Niger Delta city of Warri because of fears of violence between ethnic groups.
A spokesman for the electoral commission said late Friday that polls in three Warri government areas, or councils, will be postponed until December 2.
Warri, in Nigeria's rich oil-producing region, is the scene of ethnic tension between the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups. The Ijaw had threatened to boycott the election, alleging the government favors the Itsekiri and wants to keep political power out of Ijaw hands.
This is the second time the elections have been rescheduled. They were originally supposed to be held in March, but were postponed then because of the possibility of violence.
