US Refuses to Wish Fallen Castro Well

The U.S. State Department has refused to wish Cuban President Fidel Castro a speedy recovery after the communist leader suffered a broken arm and leg in a fall.

Departmental spokesman Richard Boucher said Thursday the United States is more concerned with the welfare of the Cuban people. He suggested to reporters covering the State Department that they check with people in the island nation to - in his words - "find out what's broken about Castro."

Mr. Castro broke his left arm and right knee late Wednesday after falling during a graduation ceremony in the city of Santa Clara. Video from the televised event shows Mr. Castro stumbling as he left the stage after an address to graduating arts instructors.
