Dominican Republic President to Visit White House

The White House has announced that U.S. President Barack Obama will host Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez for a working meeting in Washington Monday.

In a statement Friday, the White House said the two leaders will discuss a wide-range of bilateral and western-hemisphere issues.

The statement noted the long and close relationship between the United States and the Dominican Republic and the important contributions Dominicans have made to the U.S. and the Americas.

Mr. Fernandez was first elected president of the Dominican Republic in 1996. He left office in 2000, but successfully ran for re-election in 2004 and 2008.
