Volunteers collect fuel oil from rocks at the "Muelle Viejo" beach in Gran Canaria in Spain's Canary Islands. A Russian ship, carrying 1,409 tons of fuel oil, caught fire in Las Palmas port and authorities towed it out to sea where it sank offshore April 14 around 15 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria. The Development Ministry says they continue to take protective measures to avoid slicks spotted off beaches in the area.
