Pakistani police say a bomb exploded on a bus carrying female university students, killing at least 11 people, and a second blast occurred at a hospital where victims of the attack had been taken.

Investigators say about 20 people were wounded in the first bombing, which took place Saturday in the southwestern city of Quetta.

Authorities say all of the victims killed in the explosion and a subsequent fire on the bus were associated with a university.

Pakistani news reports say a senior government official was killed in the bombing at the medical facility.

News reports say there were bursts of gunfire at the hospital after the blast occurred.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attacks as "cowardly and inhumane acts." A state news report also says he offered his sympathies to the victims and their families.

There were no initial claims of responsibility for the attacks.

Quetta is the main city in Baluchistan province, a region plagued by insurgent unrest.

Earlier Saturday, police said militants destroyed a historic house in Baluchistan province.

Authorities say the attackers planted several bombs near the 19th century wooden residence associated with Pakistan's founder. One guard was killed in the attack.

The blast occurred in the mountain resort town of Ziarat, where Mohammad Ali Jinnah lived before his death in 1948, a year after he led Pakistan to independence.

Police said the attackers shot and killed a police guard in the pre-dawn attack.

Baluchistan is home to several Baluch nationalist groups that demand greater rights and a share of gas and mineral revenues.
