Egypt Bans 'Terrorist' Hamas

An Egyptian court has banned all activities by the Palestinian militant group Hamas and labeled it a terrorist organization.

The ruling Tuesday also ordered the closure of Hamas offices in Egypt.

Hamas is an offshoot of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, which the interim government has declared a terrorist group and has been cracking down on since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi last July.

Mr. Morsi is a Brotherhood member, and is facing trial on a number of charges, including collaborating with Hamas. He has denied the charges, and along with the Brotherhood has insisted he is still Egypt's legitimate leader.

Hamas spokesman condemned Tuesday's ruling, saying it is a goes against the Palestinian cause.

Hamas rules the Gaza Strip and wants to establish an Islamic state across Gaza, the West Bank and Israel. The West considers Hamas a terrorist group.
