Officials in eastern Afghanistan said a bomb blast has killed five young children and a woman in the home of a Taliban commander.
Officials said the Taliban commander, identified at Abdullah, assembled the roadside bomb in the house he shares with relatives. He left the bomb in the residence.
Authorities said the children, aged three to seven years old, were playing with the bomb Thursday when it exploded.
The Associated Press said Abdullah's brother and wife were the parents of the children and the dead woman was Abdullah's sister.
Roadside bombs are the weapon of choice for Taliban insurgents fighting against Afghan government troops and their NATO military allies.
