Jim Furyk celebrates after shooting a course and PGA-record 58 during the final round of the Travelers Championship golf tournament in Cromwell, Conn., Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.

Veteran American golfer Jim Furyk fired the lowest score in PGA Tour history Sunday, shooting a 58 in the final round of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The 46-year-old former US Open winner had held the record of 59 along with five others, until going one better Sunday.

After the round, Furyk said "There are a lot of rounds by a lot of great players ahead of me that have never reached 58. So to hold it on the PGA Tour is phenomenal."

Despite the great final round, he finished in a tie for 5th place for the four-round tournament, three shots behind winner Russell Knox of Scotland on the par 70 course.
