Kerry to Discuss Egypt, Syria in Talks with Arab Officials
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry steps off his plane upon his arrival at the Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan, July 16, 2013.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is in Jordan for talks with Arab League officials on rising tensions in Egypt and deteriorating conditions in Syria.
Kerry arrived Tuesday and is scheduled to meet first with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh.
Officials say the talks will focus mostly on Egypt, which has seen several rounds of deadly clashes since the military ousted former President Mohamed Morsi earlier this month. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns has been in Egypt meeting with the country's interim leaders.
Kerry is also scheduled to have dinner late Tuesday in the Jordanian capital with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Kerry has made reviving stalled peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians one of his top priorities.
