A man has killed four people, and wounded four others, during a bloody 28-hour rampage across New York City.

Twenty-three year old Maksim Gelman is accused of fatally stabbing his stepfather, ex-girlfriend, and her mother before striking and killing a man while driving a stolen car Friday.

Police say the Ukrainian-born, U.S. citizen also stabbed and wounded four other people, including a taxi driver and a train passenger, before being captured by police at a New York City train station on Saturday.

New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly described the crimes as "horrendous and bizarre," adding that authorities had no reason to know why he committed the attacks.

Reports say he had prior arrests for drugs and graffiti.
