Former South African president Nelson Mandela has returned to his home in Johannesburg after a lengthy stay in a hospital.

Mr. Mandela, who is 95, was admitted into a hospital in Pretoria on June 8 for a recurring lung infection.

The former president has been in and out of the hospital for much of the past year.

Last week, South African President Jacob Zuma urged South Africans to continue to pray for the former president who was showing "great resilience."

Mr. Mandela is revered in South African and beyond for this role in ending official racial discrimination and white minority rule. After spending 27 years in prison, he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and was elected South Africa's first black president the following year.
