Musharraf Denied Bail for Bhutto Assassination

A Pakistani court has rejected bail for former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in connection with the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

A prosecution lawyer said Wednesday the high court had dismissed Mr. Musharraf's bail request and the former leader could be arrested for his involvement in the Bhutto assassination.

Mr. Musharraf had denied allegations that he was involved in the former prime minister's murder in December 2007.

The court's decision Wednesday is the second time the Mr. Musharraf has recently been denied bail.

He is currently under house arrest for dismissing top judges when he was in power in 2007.

Mr. Musharraf seized power in a military coup in 1999 and ruled for nearly a decade before he was forced to step down in 2008.
