Syrian activists said at least 23 people were killed by rocket attacks in two northern towns.

Activists said rocket fire from Syrian military helicopters killed at least 10 people in the town of Azaz early Tuesday. Azaz is in Aleppo province near the border with Turkey.

In a separate incident late Monday, a rocket strike on the nearby town of Marea left 13 people dead, most of them children.

Both attacks were reported by the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

More than 160,000 people have been killed in Syria's civil war, which erupted three years ago after President Bashar al-Assad responded with force to protests against his rule.
