Singer Songwriter Christina Perri Celebrates Birthday on Stage and Holiday EP

Singer songwriter Christina Perri has been on tour for the last two and a half years for her debut CD “Lovestrong” and has just released her first ever holiday album called “A Very Merry Perri Christmas”.

Christina Perri has just ended her first tour, which lasted over two years as opening act for Jason Mraz.

One of the highlights of the tour happened in August when she celebrated her 26th birthday on stage.

“What really blew me away was on stage. They all surprised me and came out. When I sing “Jar of Hearts” I do it by myself and the band steps off stage for a minute. When they came back I am in such a different…I am on another planet when I am done playing that song. I am sitting like this (she puts her hands together and holds them to her head) like I do every time, then I hear “da da dum dum dum Happy Birthday to you” and I did not see it coming. [And] Jason [Mraz] came out in a full dinosaur costume plus 28 of our people in our crew and they brought me a cake which was the coolest cake I have ever seen," she said.

Christina Perri has recorded music for the Twilight film “Breaking Dawn” and her debut CD “Lovestrong” achieved platinum status, which she admits has changed her life.

“I was a waitress and a café manager and I was recording a demo of music. My best friend passed along a song called “Jar of Hearts” that was a demo like a million and a half other people have. She emailed it to the choreographer of a Fox TV dance show called “So You Think You Can Dance” and they chose the song and played it on the TV show. I was in the audience taking the day off work to watch that happen. What really happened is my whole life changed. By midnight that night the song was on top of the charts. I existed. I did not exist before. I woke up the next day flew to New York City. I quit my job at the café. I was wined and dined by every major record label in New York City for 21 days," she said.

Christina Perri is getting a jump on the holiday season with her new EP “A Very Merry Perri Christmas”. She admits the holidays are always special for her and is excited about her first holiday album.

"Christmas is my favorite thing ever so everyone knew this was coming. They are my five favorite Christmas songs that I have covered plus an original that I wrote, I think I have been writing a Christmas song since I was three, it was the easiest thing. I was so scared about it. I did not want to make the cheesiest Christmas song ever or do I want to make the cheesiest Christmas song ever. I could not figure it out. I sat down with my big brother (Nick Perri) and we wrote our Christmas song about what we would sing about from our childhood and it came out authentic. Apparently people like it so I am excited about that," she said.

Christina Perri is taking time off for the holidays and plans to release her sophomore CD in 2013.
