Donald Trump is now the 45th president of the United States. After swearing his allegiance to the Constitution in a ceremony at the US Capitol Friday, Trump delivered a 16-minute address stressing his campaign theme - "make America great again." The 70-year-old president, holding elective office for the first time in his life, told a crowd of several hundred thousand people at the National Mall that his administration will transfer power away from Washington and return it to the American people.
Even as the Inaugural Parade and other celebrations were still underway, the US Senate returned to work, considering President Trump's Cabinet nominations. The chamber approved retired Marine Gen. James Mattis as Secretary of Defense by an overwhelming margin, 98-1.
