US Stock Indexes Close At Record Highs

U.S. stock markets closed at record highs Thursday, with the main indexes showing gains of 10 percent or more in the first three months of the year.

The markets, as measured by the S&P 500 index and the Dow Jones Industrials index, have now surpassed levels last seen in October 2007, before the benchmarks shed about $10 trillion in value during a more than two-year financial crisis.

The S&P 500 closed at 1,569 points on Thursday, up four-tenths of one percent for the day and 10 percent since the beginning of the year. The Dow Jones index gained just under four-tenths of a percent for the day, to 14,579. The Dow has gained 11.25 percent in the last year.
