Insurgents in Afghanistan have attacked Kabul's main airport, setting off an hours-long gunbattle with security forces.
Authorities say the attack began before dawn Monday, focused on the military side of the facility.
Militants occupied a nearby building under construction and were firing on the airport, which serves as a base for coalition forces. Civilian flights were halted because of the violence.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
