Afghan Police: 17 Killed in Suicide Blast in Kabul

Afghan police say at least 17 people have been killed in a suicide car bombing that targeted staff of the Afghan Supreme Court.

Police say the explosion went off Tuesday as Supreme Court employees were boarding buses outside the courthouse in Kabul.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and said the target was a Supreme Court official. The courthouse is near the heavily fortified U.S. embassy.

An Afghan government spokesman told VOA 39 people were wounded in the blast. He said women were among the casualties.

The attack came a day after seven Taliban fighters were killed by Afghan security forces after launching a pre-dawn raid on Kabul's main airport.
