Suicide Bombers, Prison Attacks Are Latest in Deadly Iraqi Violence

A suicide bomber has struck an Iraqi military convoy in Mosul, killing 25 people, while militants near Baghdad have carried out deadly attacks at two prisons - the latest incidents in a wave of violence.

Police say the suicide bomber had been following the convoy through a residential neighborhood when he detonated his vehicle full of explosives. Officials say the dead include at least 22 soldiers and three civilians. Several other people were wounded in the blast Monday - some seriously.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, officials say attacks at Taji and Abu Ghraib prisons near Baghdad Monday have killed at least 25 members of the security force. The attackers used mortars and car bombs in clashes that continued for much of the night.

A recent wave of violence in Iraq has killed hundreds of people this month alone.
