Ghana's Supreme Court has upheld President John Mahama's victory in last year's presidential poll, rejecting a challenge by the opposition.
Justice William Atuguba, reading the court's verdict Thursday, said Mr. Mahama was "validly elected" and that the petition from the opposition New Patriotic Party was dismissed.
Official results from the December election showed Mr. Mahama winning a narrow victory with 50.7 percent of the vote.
The NPP said the outcome was the result of fraud, including alleged changes to vote tallies.
Ghana's police deployed 30,000 officers ahead of Thursday's verdict in case of rioting.
Police spokesman Cephas Arthur said police were ready to protect officials and vital installations such as power stations and the Bank of Ghana.
Ghana has become one of Africa's most stable countries, having carried out several peaceful transfers of power since the early 1990s.
