Two Candidates Declare Victory in Honduras Presidential Election

With more than 50 percent of the vote counted in Honduras, two of the eight presidential candidates are declaring victory in Sunday's election.

Election officials say the candidate of the ruling National Party, Juan Orlando Hernandez, has just more than a third of the votes counted. Left wing Libre Party candidate Xiomara Castro de Zelaya has about 28 percent.

Castro is the wife of former president Manuel Zelaya, who was ousted in 2009.

The U.S. ambassador to Honduras and the head of a European Union election observer team say the balloting process was conducted without irregularities, and urged the candidates to respect the results.

But Castro's party said it would not accept the results and would take legal action against them.
