Egyptian prosecutors say ousted president Mohamed Morsi will stand trial on a third set of criminal charges, in an apparent bid to strengthen the legal campaign against the former Islamist leader and his allies.
The new charges were filed Saturday. They also name more than 100 other members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood party for escaping prison in 2011 and allegedly killing police during the revolt that toppled longtime President Hosni Mubarak and brought Mr. Morsi to power.
Many of the defendants have been identified as members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, the Lebanon-based militia Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps.
No trial date was set.
Mr. Morsi and other senior members of the Brotherhood also are on trial for incitement to murder opposition protesters while he was in office. The ousted leader appeared in court last month for the first time to face those charges.
Egypt's military removed Mr. Morsi from office in July. Hosni Mubarak was ousted in the country's popular uprising that began in January 2011.
