California Chrome has won the 139th Preakness Stakes on Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland, putting him one step closer to capturing horse racing's elusive Triple Crown.
The 3-year-old colt, ridden by jockey Victor Espinoza, edged out Ride On Curlin, which finished second, and Social Inclusion, which was third. California Chrome was a 3-5 favorite for the $1.5 million race. Two weeks ago, the horse won the Kentucky Derby.
If the horse wins the Belmont Stakes June 7 in New York, he would become the first Triple Crown winner in 36 years. The horse, Affirmed, was the last Triple Crown winner in 1978.
