Singer Justin Bieber has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of careless driving and resisting arrest, seven months after he was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida.

Bieber made the plea in absentia Wednesday. The hearing to resolve the case took place at Miami-Dade Circuit Court.

The 20-year-old pop star's plea deal with prosecutors calls for a 12-hour anger management course, court fines and a $50,000 charitable contribution. The deal allows Bieber to avoid a driving under the influence (DUI) conviction.

The Canadian-born Bieber and R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff were arrested in January following what police had called an illegal drag race of exotic sports cars along a quiet residential street.

Breath tests found Bieber's blood alcohol level below the limit for underage drivers. Urine tests, however, showed Bieber had used marijuana and taken an anti-anxiety drug.
