18 Killed in Latvia Supermarket Roof Collapse

Emergency officials in Latvia say the roof of a supermarket has collapsed, killing at least 18 people, including three firefighters, and injuring 35 people.

Officials say the roof appeared to collapse in stages.

Emergency workers say the firefighters were killed when a section of the roof fell on them after their arrival on the scene.

Authorities say they the 500 square meter roof of the store located near Riga, the capital, caved in Thursday.

The reason for the collapse was not immediately clear.
