2 Dead, 2 Injured in Nevada School Shooting

A 12-year-old student killed a teacher and wounded two classmates before killing himself in a middle school in the southwestern U.S. state of Nevada.

The shooting took place in Sparks, Nevada, near the border with California. The two students are reported to be in stable condition. One was shot in the shoulder, the other in the abdomen.

The teacher was identified as a 45-year-old U.S. military veteran who died trying to protect his students.

The local police chief said between 150 and 200 officers responded to the incident. The school, Sparks Middle School, will remain closed for the rest of the week.

The shooting was the latest in a string of deadly gun incidents across the United States. It came nearly a year after a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in which 20 students and six adults died.
