20 Pakistani Soldiers Killed in Blast

Officials in northwest Pakistan say a blast targeting a military convoy has killed 20 Pakistani soldiers and wounded at least 24 others.

A security official said it is not clear if the explosion Sunday in the town of Bannu was a result of a suicide attack or a planted device.

Authorities say the explosion took place as an army convoy was preparing to leave Bannu, located in the lawless North Waziristan tribal region on the Afghan border, which is considered a safe haven for al-Qaida-linked militants.
