6 Dead in Philippines Bombing

Police in the southern Philippines say six people were killed when a homemade bomb ripped through a restaurant in the port city of Cagayan de Oro.

Authorities said Saturday that about 28 people were wounded when the blast occurred around midnight, many of them representatives of pharmaceutical companies, who were having a party at the restaurant.

Police say an investigation is underway to determine the motive for the attack.

Cagayan de Oro is located on the island of Mindanao, where al-Qaida-linked militants, communist rebels and heavily armed criminal gangs operate.
