6 Killed in Pakistan Mosque Attack

Officials in southwestern Pakistan say gunmen have killed at least six people and wounded 10 others outside a mosque.

Authorities say the attack took place Friday in Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province, after morning prayers marking the beginning of the Muslim holiday of Eid a-Fitr at the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Authorities say former provincial minister Ali Madad Jatak may have been the target, but he escaped unharmed.

The attack came a day after a suicide bomber attacked a police officer's funeral in Quetta, killing 30 people and wounding dozens more.

The provincial head of police operations Fayaz Sumbal is among several senior officers killed in the attack.

Hundreds of people had gathered to pay respects to an officer gunned down earlier in the day as he traveled through the city with his children,

The bombing is one of the bolder actions in a series of attacks targeting security forces in Pakistan, where Taliban fighters routinely kill police officers.
