21 People Injured in US School Stabbing

Police in Pennsylvania say a student armed with two knives injured 20 of his classmates and a security officer during a 30-minute stabbing and slashing spree at a high school near Pittsburgh.

A hospital spokesman says four victims appear to have life-threatening injuries, but are expected to survive. Seven victims are listed in serious condition with wounds to their torso, abdomen, chest or back. Doctors say one of the students had a knife wound to the liver and that the knife narrowly missed his heart and aorta.

The attack unfolded just minutes before the start of classes at 1,200-student Franklin Regional High School.

Police said the incident was over in minutes after the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was tackled by the school's assistant principal.

Later in the afternoon, the 16-year-old male was brought into court to face charges.
