Witnesses say at least four people have been killed in an apparent attack on an upscale shopping mall in the Kenyan capital.
The gunmen opened fire and tossed hand grenades Saturday at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. Several people were wounded, including children. There have been reports of hostages being held in the complex.
The attack sent terrified shoppers fleeing. Many left the building, where smoke was seen pouring out of one entrance. Police have the mall on lockdown.
Officials say the incident may have been a failed robbery attempt, but there has been no official confirmation of a motive. The mall is popular with wealthy Kenyans and expatriates.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.
