Preservation Organization Lists America's Most Endangered Historic Places

A U.S. historic preservation organization has included legendary American-writer Ernest Hemingway's Cuban home, and the homes of six former U.S. presidents, in an annual list of endangered historic places.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation Thursday released the "2005 List of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places."

Richard Moe, president of the National Trust, says that Mr. Hemingway's Cuban home was included because it is part of a shared heritage that "defines us as Americans."

The organization also included places such as Camp Security in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, the sole remaining site of a camp from the U.S. Revolutionary War against Britain during the 1700s.

The list also included King Island in Alaska, which the organization says is in danger of being washed into the Bering Sea.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, founded in 1949, advocates the preservation of historic places in the United States.
