The main opposition party in Zanzibar says it will not accept the official results of this week's election and will not cooperate with the government.
Reporters on Tanzania's semi-autonomous island say businesses are open Thursday and the streets have returned to normal. Earlier in the week, clashes between opposition supporters and police left at least one person dead and dozens injured.
President Amani Abeid Karume was sworn in for a second five-year term Wednesday. Zanzibar's electoral commission says Mr. Karume won 53 percent of the vote in Sunday's election, while opposition candidate Seif Sharif Hamad took 46 percent.
The opposition charges the elections were rigged.
International observers have said that despite some problems, Sunday's vote was generally free and fair.
