Adele, One Direction Top Billboard 2012 List

Adele was named artist of the year and her sophomore release, 21, number one on Billboard's top 200 album chart.

The British pop singer, 24, is the only act to top both lists for two consecutive years. She was also named the number one female artist.  

Other Billboard leaders on the 2012 list include: One Direction for top new artist/group; Drake for top male artist; Maroon 5, number one group; Rihanna, number one Hot 100 Artist; Taylor Swift for top country artist; Luke Bryan, number one country artist; fun., top rock artist; and The Black Keys for alternative songs artist/group.

Most Charitable Celebrities of 2012 Named

DoSomething.org released its list of the most charitable celebrities of 2012.

Taylor Swift is tops with contributions, which includes a $4-million donation to Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame.  

Actress/singer Miley Cyrus was number two on the list.

Other musicians in the top 10 include Lady Gaga at number four, Justin Bieber at number five, Pink at number 7 and Selena Gomez at number 9.


Nielsen Tracks Top Sellers of 2012

Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know was the top-selling digital song of the year with 6.7 million downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe came in second with 6.3 million downloads.

Rounding out the top five best-selling songs are fun.’s We Are Young, Maroon 5’s Payphone and Nicki Minaj’s Starships.



Patti Page, Temptations, Ravi Shankar to Receive 2013 Lifetime Achievement Grammy Awards

The Recording Academy has announced the recipients of its 2013 Lifetime Achievement Grammy Awards.

They include the late Glenn Gould, Charlie Haden, the late Lightnin’ Hopkins, Carole King, Patti Page, the Temptations and the late Ravi Shankar, who learned he would be receiving the honor one week before his death earlier this month.

In addition, Trustees Awards will be given to Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Phil Chess and his late brother Leonard Chess, and the late Alan Livingston.  

The special awards will be presented during a ceremony on Feb. 9, 2013.
 
The recipients will also be recognized during the Feb. 10 Grammy Awards telecast.
