A federal grand jury has indicted an Ohio bartender for allegedly threatening to kill Republican House Speaker John Boehner by poisoning his drink at a country club.
The suspect, Michael Hoyt of Cincinnati, was being evaluated for possible mental illness.
His indictment, made public Tuesday, alleges that Hoyt, who was fired from his bartender's job in October, telephoned police and blamed Boehner for his problems.
Hoyt allegedly told a policeman that he left the club before he had time to put "something" in Boehner's drink.
He also allegedly told the officer that he was Jesus Christ and that Boehner was mean to him and was responsible for Ebola. According to the indictment, Hoyt said he had a loaded gun in his car that he would use to kill the speaker.
Hoyt volunteered to go to a psychiatric hospital. The FBI and U.S. Capitol Police said they thought he was still a threat to Boehner.
A spokesman for Boehner said the congressman was aware of the case and thanked Capitol Police and the FBI for their action.
